Das Reform Judaism Magazine bringt in seiner Sommerausgabe einen Artikel (hier) über Nonie Darwish, Tochter eines ägytischen Offiziers und Märtyrers, denn ihr Vater wurde 1956 durch den israelischen Geheimdienst getötet. Dennoch hat sie die Organisation Arabs for Israel gegründet. In dem RJ-Artikel spricht sie nicht nur über die Erziehung zum Haß, sondern auch über die Wendungen in ihrem eigenen Leben, die sie schließlich Arabs for Israel gründen lies. Ende des vergangenen Jahres erschien ihr Buch _Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror _ (bei amazon.de).
Warum setzt sie sich für Israel ein? Das ist ein wenig (natürlich!) der rote Faden des Interviews im RJ-Magazine:
Israel is the only non-Muslim state in the Middle East. Thats why its a target; many Muslims want the Middle East to be exclusively under Muslim control. Isnt it enough that Muslims have been blessed with fifty-five Muslim states extending from Morocco to South East Asia? Why do they feel compelled to destroy a nation so small you can hardly find it on the map? And this obsession has gone beyond the question of Jewish sovereignty. Many Muslims want to make the Middle East Jew-free. Every decent Muslim and Arab must say no to this, not only because Israel has every right to exist as a nation and is an asset in the region, but also because hatred and terrorism are destroying the moral fabric and goodness within their own societies. von hier
Interessant ist auch ihre Nachricht an die jüdischen Leser:
What is your message for Jews? My message to Jews is to unite, support Israel, keep the security fence, and not be too anxious to make peace treaties on paper that are not respected by the other side. Keep yourselves strong for about fifty more years till the oil wealth is gone, and after that, when the Islamic states are weakened, the problem will be solved on its own. von hier
Sie argumentiert dabei aber nicht gegen die religiösen Überzeugungen ihrer Leserschaft bzw. Zielgruppe:
Reject hate, embrace love. Bring out the best in Islam by showing your compassion, gratitude and forgiveness. Make the holy land truly holy by giving Israel and the Jewish people the respect they deserve in their tiny little country. This is not a crisis over land. It is a crisis of the soul; a crisis in our faith, judgement and self confidence. Israel should not be regarded as an enemy, but as a blessing to our neighborhood. Sie versucht sich also in einem Dialog und kann dabei diejenigen, zu denen sie spricht, ernstnehmen weil sie genau so aufwuchs und eigentlich den gleichen Hass in sich tragen müsste. Das sie ihn überwunden hat, ist zumindest eine kleine Hoffnung.
